Baby Scrapbooks – Five Must-Have Pages
Babies Are Us
Babies are so much fun to scrapbook! First, it’s hard to take a bad picture of a cute exiguous squishy bundle of joy. Next, babies are just happy things to document. And they also convert so much from day to day that you’ll never run out of material as you enumerate each new tooth, new expression, and new “trick.” But don’t get so caught up in the exiguous bits of your baby‘s new life that you forget to make these pages:
1. Your baby‘s name. Most parents have great stories about how their child’s name came to be. For instance, for my first baby, my husband and I took a logical coming and wrote down ten names each, and then weighted our selections and averaged the results. The winner — Benjamin — fits my son perfectly, as does the logical process we took to name him! My daughters were someone else story. As a difficulty lover, I chose names from difficulty books (Kinsey and Callie) and told my husband it was a done deal. My kids love hearing these stories over and over again, so I’m glad I documented them in their scrapbooks (we even have the piece of paper we used to rank our top ten names for my son!).

2. Your baby‘s birth story. Were you in labor for ten minutes or ten hours? Did your water break at the movies? Did your last meal of spicy Thai food send you into contractions? You may think you’ll never forget the details, but it’s better to get them down now, while they’re still fresh.

3. Sibling’s reactions. How did your other children (or your pet dog!) react when you shared the news, and when you brought your baby home for the first time? (My older daughter tried to give my youngest away, and also tried to sell her at a yard sale).
4. Your baby‘s carseat. I bet this sounds genuinely strange, but think about it — when you and I were born, our parents didn’t even Have carseats. Mom just held us in her arms on the way home from the hospital! Then there were “capsules” that kind of just sat on the back seat. And then now there are these major dollar investments that take three men (two of whom are trained professionals) to install. What will the next decade bring? Who knows, other than the fact that it will be quite distinct than what we use today. Document it!
5. Your baby‘s feet. Baby feet are simply adorable. Every time I’d look at my kids’ tootsies, I would think of all the places those exiguous feet were going to take them. I wish I had More pictures of their cute piggy toes! Bare, in footy pajamas, in socks or booties — make sure to take a lot of pictures.
